The Tree Top Flyers hosted our third annual Fish "Fry-In" on Saturday, October 9th, and Sunday, October 10th at Whisper Field. SATURDAY ACTIVITIES Although we had no formal activities planned for Saturday, most members were at the field setting up tents and performing various chores. We also flew late in the day after the chores were finished. We had planned to fly down to the "Rotors Over Carolina 2004" event taking place at Aiken, S.C. Unfortunately, by the time we finished setting up, there was little time left for the trip. Also, the weather was overcast and not particularly conducive to the trip. That evening, we had a hamburger and hotdog cookout. We sat by a bonfire on Saturday night and enjoyed good fellowship. FISH LUNCHEON ON SUNDAY The event was be very informal and enjoyed by all who attended ... old and young alike. Lunch was served beginning just after 1:00pm. It was prepared by club members and included: fish (whiting, catfish, flounder), fries, slaw, hushpuppies, bread, baked beans, grits, iced tea, and soft drinks. For those who did not like fish, we had hamburgers and hotdogs. After lunch, we held a bomb drop contest. The bomb drop lasted longer than expected due to allowing only a few planes at a time to participate for safety reasons. Jim Summers and Mark Williams won the bomb drop. After the bomb drop contest, several of us made a "poker run". Karl Fields held the high hand and won the event. PHOTOS FROM THE EVENT The tent area, where we cooked and served the fish luncheon. By this time, most of the people had eaten and moved to the viewing area. Mark Williams and his nephews escort Chuck Rheinert (Trenton Flyers). Chuck recently installed a Rotax 582 in his Firestar I Joe Bonnette after a flight with his mother-in-law, Mrs. Mildred
Tucker. She is 90 years old and this was only her second flight.
