CATERED FISH LUNCHEON
The Tree Top Flyers will host our second annual Fish "Fry-In" on Sunday, October 19th, 2003 at
Whisper Field. The event will be very informal. Wear whatever makes you comfortable ... jeans, shorts, T-shirts, etc. Lunch will be served from approximately 1:00pm until
2:00pm. The lunch will be catered though the courtesy and generosity
of Vickie Clifton. Thank you, Vickie!
We are requesting
a donation of $5.00 per ticket for the meal. The proceeds from these donations will be used
to help defray the cost of enclosing
the rear portion of our club headquarters for the upcoming cooler months. Get
your tickets now, as we need to know for how many to plan. Contact Jim Summers, club treasurer,
directly or via email by clicking on the little mailbox below:

ENTERTAINMENT
We plan to have live entertainment later in the day. This
entertainment will be provided free by a group of musicians who have been
playing music for years ... and normally get paid to do it. For those of you who have always yearned to play with a band,
come prepared to show your ... ummm ... talent

Although the times will be flexible, we
tentatively plan to have music shortly after lunch up until about 4:30pm. If we have enough musicians
lingering after flying activities are over, then we may play
music again after dusk. If not, then we have plenty
of recorded music for your enjoyment.
OTHER WEEKEND ACTIVITIES
We are planning to hold a poker run to
several local airports on either Saturday or Sunday (the day of the fish fry).
We'll remain flexible on which day it will be held depending upon the number of
participants we have on either day.
We plan to have a hamburger cookout and bonfire on Saturday night. There
is a possibility that we may have some musicians out Saturday night also, as
well as Sunday, for a jam session. In the process, we can enjoy some good
music! Several
of us also plan to cook breakfast out at Whisper Field on Sunday morning. Come
on out and join us!!
DRIVING IN?
If you plan to drive in,
the address for Whisper Field is 441 George Brown Road, Pelion, S.C., 29123. To

determinate our location in relation to yours.

FLYING IN?
If you plan to fly in, the main runway at
Whisper Field is 35/17 at approximately 1700'. Field elevation is approximately 450 feet.
Pattern altitude is 500 AGL (950 MSL). Radio advisories will be available on the
date of the event on frequency
122.75. The GPS coordinates for Whisper Field are:
Latitude ..... 33o
45.77' North
Longitude .. 081o 12.41' West
NEARBY CAE AIRSPACE
Please note that the Class C airspace of
Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) begins just a few miles north of Whisper
Field. We do occasionally have commercial aircraft flying over Whisper Field. However, you should
experience no problems as long as you remain under the 1800 foot floor of the
outer Class C shell. As always, we recommend consulting your sectional or aeronautical chart before starting your
journey.
NON-ULTRALIGHT AIRCRAFT
Since our longest runway at Whisper Field is
only 1700', we recommend that general aviation, and higher performance
aircraft than ultralights, use Pelion Corporate Airport (6J0), which is located
approximately 2.5 miles northwest of Whisper Field. It has a nice paved runway
(17/35) of 4335' in length. If you wish to fly in there, just fly over Whisper Field, get on
122.75, and let us know those are your intentions. We'll send ground
transportation over to pick you up. For further information on Pelion
Corporate, click below.
SATURDAY PLANS
We also plan to be flying on Saturday. We'll
likely cook hamburgers and have a campfire that evening. We invite you to join us.
However, we do ask that you let us know you are coming, so that we may plan
accordingly. For those of you who may wish to stay overnight, you
may bring camping gear and stay in our club headquarters. Some of us plan
to have RVs there, so we could quite possibly make arrangements to accommodate
you.
NEED GASOLINE?
For those of you needing gasoline, we'll
provide transportation to a local gas station, and we can provide gas cans, if
necessary. Bring your own 2-cycle oil, if needed!
50/50 DRAWING
We also plan to have a 50/50 drawing. That
is, we'll sell tickets, and the proceeds go into a "pot". Then,
we'll draw a winner. 50% of the money goes to the winner, and 50% will go to the
club.
NOTICE: Although you have
permission to drive in or fly in, all operations at Whisper Field will be at
your own risk. Due to the inherent danger of being near aircraft, we discourage the
attendance of children.
