The weather was beautiful on August 7-8, 2004 ... just right for an impromptu club "weekender". The temperatures were in the mid-80s during mid-day and all the way down into the high 50s during the early morning hours of Sunday morning.  Can you believe having to wear a jacket in August?!

Several club members made a trip to Trenton on Saturday, August 7th.  Pictured left to right are: Bob McConkey, Randy Berry, Jim Summers, Troy White. Although Bob has much experience as an ex-military pilot in helicopters, this was his first trip in an ultralight aircraft after completing training with BFI Joe Bonnette. Wow ... did he get "broken in" right! Troy White had a "unique experience" also.

The following morning, several of the guys visited Shealy's Airstrip on Lake Murray. Below they are shown departing Whisper Field early on Sunday morning, August 8, 2004.

Four members flew to Shealy's. Pictured below left to right are: Mark Williams, Chris Yanesh, Jim Summers and Karl Fields.  The 3 planes are also shown in the background.

The guys also had the opportunity to visit with Mr. Wilson Shealy (holding the square aluminum tubing).  Mr. Shealy says he has been on this property since 1928 ... but it has been a rather long struggle for him to stay on it.  His hangar is a treasure trove of old aircraft, aircraft parts, engines, tools, and aviation equipment. Chris Yanesh appeared to greatly enjoy seeing the NASCAR race on a tiny TV while there.

Here's a photo of the long strip at Shealy's ... which ends directly onto the waters of Lake Murray.  If you aren't off the ground by then, you're going to get wet!!

Henry, the great dane, tends to ward off "would-be trespassers", but he is actually a very nice doggie ... once he gets to know you. Although it's difficult to tell in this photo, Henry stands about waist high to a man and can look into your car window without jumping up on it.

And finally, a photo of the guys returning to Whisper Field after a long and eventful weekend.
